Writing from Sources Shift Kit (Shift Two)

The Writing From Sources Kit was designed to give teachers and administrators some background information on what is expected for student achievement with the Illinois Learning Standards (ILS) in writing from sources.

  • **Grades 6-12:  Procon.org presents controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan, primarily pro-con format. Articles and supporting documents are provided but caution is encouraged due to some of the sensitive nature of some topics.
  • All Grades:  Writingfix.org: Examples of writing genres and samples of each genre are provided. Mentor texts with lesson plans and graphic organizers are also provided.
  • Grades 4-12: Kellygallagher.org offers articles of the week to support writing from sources with adolescents.   
  • Grades 4-12:  AdLit's website contains a number of resources for teachers. Text structure refers to how the information within a written text is organized.
